1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing and using Companion ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the App.
2. Eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years of age to use Companion
- You must be a legal resident of a jurisdiction where the App is available
- You are responsible for ensuring your access complies with local laws
- We reserve the right to verify age and eligibility at any time
3. User Account
Sign-In Methods
You may create and access your account using a magic link sent to your email address, or by signing in with Google or Apple. When you use Google or Apple sign-in, you authorise us to receive your name and email address from that provider. These providers are subject to their own terms and privacy policies.
Account Responsibilities
- You must provide accurate, honest information during registration
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and any linked Google or Apple account
- You are liable for all activity under your account
- You must notify us immediately of unauthorized access
Account Suspension
We may suspend or terminate your account if you:
- Violate these Terms of Service
- Provide false or misleading information
- Engage in prohibited conduct (see Section 5)
- Violate applicable laws
4. User Conduct Standards
You agree NOT to:
- Harass, threaten, or intimidate other users
- Post hate speech, discriminatory, or offensive content
- Share sexually explicit images without consent
- Impersonate others or use fake identities
- Spam, scam, or deceive other users
- Share personal information (phone, address, etc.) without consent
- Engage in stalking or obsessive behavior
- Use the App for commercial purposes or advertising
- Violate anyone's privacy or intellectual property rights
- Attempt to hack, exploit, or damage the App
- Bypass safety features or age restrictions
Respectful Interaction
Companion is designed for genuine connection. Users must:
- Treat others with respect and dignity
- Accept rejection gracefully
- Not pressure users for personal information or meetings
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behavior
5. Messaging & Communication
- Messages are private between matched users
- We may review reports and relevant activity to address safety concerns and comply with legal obligations
- Do not share passwords, payment info, or sensitive personal data
- We are not responsible for user-generated content to the extent permitted by applicable law
- Credible threats of violence may lead to account action, including suspension or termination, and we may notify relevant authorities when appropriate
6. Subscription & Payments
Paid Subscription
- Companion offers both free and paid (Companion+) subscription tiers
- Subscriptions are available through three platforms depending on how you access Companion:
- Patreon — for subscribers using the web app
- Apple App Store — for iOS users
- Google Play Store — for Android users
- Current pricing and subscription duration are displayed before purchase on each platform
- Subscriptions auto-renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date (at least 24 hours before for App Store and Google Play)
- Payment is charged to your Patreon account (web), Apple ID account (iOS), or Google Play account (Android) at confirmation of purchase
Cancellation
- Web (Patreon): Cancel through your Patreon membership settings at patreon.com
- iOS: Cancel through Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad
- Android: Cancel through the Google Play Store → Subscriptions section
- For App Store and Google Play, cancellation must be made at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period
- You retain full access to paid features until your current billing period expires
- Cancelling your subscription does not delete your account
Refund Policy
- Subscriptions purchased through Patreonare subject to Patreon's refund policy. Contact Patreon support for billing disputes
- Subscriptions purchased through the App Store are subject to Apple's refund policy. Refund requests must be submitted directly to Apple
- Subscriptions purchased through Google Playare subject to Google's refund policy. Refund requests must be submitted directly to Google
- We do not process refunds for purchases made through Patreon, Apple, or Google — those are managed exclusively by the respective platform
- Deleting your account does not automatically entitle you to a refund
7. Payment & Billing
- All payments are processed by the platform through which you subscribe: Patreon (web), Apple (App Store), or Google (Google Play). Companion does not directly handle or store your payment card information
- By subscribing, you authorise the relevant platform to charge your linked payment method on a recurring basis
- You are responsible for keeping your payment information current on whichever platform you use
- Patreon's, Apple's, and Google's billing terms and privacy policies apply to their respective payment transactions
- Failed payments may result in temporary loss of paid features until the billing issue is resolved with the platform
- We are not responsible for payment processing interruptions caused by Patreon, Apple, Google, your financial institution, or any other payment provider
8. Advertising & Sponsored Content
Ads in the App
- The Companion mobile app displays ads powered by Google AdMob, including interstitial ads (full-screen ads shown at natural transition points) and rewarded video ads (optional ads you can choose to watch in exchange for in-app rewards)
- The discovery feed may include sponsored cards — clearly identifiable promotional content shown periodically between profiles
- Ads are served to all users of the app regardless of subscription status
Rewarded Ads
- You may choose to watch a rewarded video ad to earn additional swipes or super likes beyond your daily or lifetime allowance
- Watching a rewarded ad is always optional and voluntary
- Rewards are credited to your account immediately after the ad is completed and verified
Ad Tracking & Privacy
- Google AdMob may use your device advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, GAID on Android) to personalise ads. On iOS, you will be asked for permission via Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt
- You may decline the ATT prompt or disable ad tracking at any time in your device settings — you will still see ads, but they will not be personalised
- Google's privacy policy governs AdMob's data practices. We do not share your profile, messages, or personal data with advertisers
9. Content Rights & Ownership
Your Content
- You retain ownership of photos, profiles, and messages you create
- You grant Companion a license to use your profile for App functionality
- You grant Companion permission to use your photos for matching purposes
- Do not upload copyrighted content you don't own
Company Content
- Companion branding, interface, and features are owned by Companion
- You may not copy, modify, or distribute App content
- Unauthorized use violates intellectual property laws
10. Privacy
- We collect data as outlined in our Privacy Policy
- Your location is used for matching (optional)
- Your email is never shared with other users
- We use encryption to protect sensitive data
- Third-party integrations also have their own privacy policies
11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Companion is provided "as is" and our liability is limited for:
- Connections, matches, or relationships that do not work out
- Disputes between users
- Data loss or technical failures
- Offline interactions or meetings
- Injuries, fraud, or crimes involving users
- Third-party services and payment processors
12. User Safety & Responsibility
Important:
- Companion cannot guarantee user safety in all circumstances
- Meet in public places only
- Tell someone where you're going
- Report suspicious users to our support team
- We apply verification and moderation measures, but cannot verify every statement made by users
- Please use your judgment and take reasonable safety precautions
13. Prohibited Content
You will not upload, share, or create:
- Sexually explicit images or content
- Photos of minors
- Non-consensual intimate images
- Violence or threats
- Hate speech or discrimination
- Malware or harmful code
- Third-party copyrighted content
14. Reporting & Enforcement
- Report violations via the in-app report button
- Provide context and supporting information
- We aim to review reports promptly, typically within 48 hours
- Depending on severity and available evidence, violations may result in account warnings, suspension, or termination
- We may contact law enforcement when required by law or when there is a credible risk of harm
15. Our Rights
We reserve the right to:
- Modify or remove App features
- Change pricing with 30 days notice
- Update these Terms of Service
- Monitor user activity for safety and compliance
- Suspend or terminate accounts for material or repeated violations
- Refuse or limit service where permitted by law and these Terms
16. Changes to Terms
- We may update these Terms with notice to users
- Continued use means acceptance of new terms
- Material changes will be announced in-app
17. Dispute Resolution
- All disputes are governed by applicable law
- We encourage resolving disputes through:
- Good faith negotiation with support
- Mediation (if negotiation fails)
- Binding arbitration (if mediation fails)
- Where permitted by law, disputes may be resolved on an individual basis
